Biohazard spill absorbent granules

Description

Biocide Absorbant Granules 200g Shaker (GVAG200), also marketed as GV Health High Absorbency Granules, are professional-grade spill management granules designed for rapid containment and solidification of biohazard body fluid spills such as urine, vomit, faeces, saliva and sputum. Each 200 g shaker contains highly absorbent, inert, cross-linked sodium polyacrylate granules that can absorb up to approximately 20 litres of liquid, converting it into a firm, non-spill gel for safer handling and disposal as clinical waste. The product is suitable for use on hard and soft surfaces in healthcare and related environments and is mildly perfumed to help neutralise unpleasant odours.

Bnefits

  • Ultra high absorption capacity – 200 g of granules can absorb up to approximately 20 litres of liquid
  • Rapid containment and solidification of biohazard body fluid spills
  • Converts liquids into a firm, non-spill gel for safer clean-up and disposal
  • Inert and non-toxic polymer composition
  • Helps prevent spreading of spills across surfaces
  • No vapours given off on contact with the spill
  • Mildly perfumed to help neutralise unpleasant odours
  • Suitable for use on both hard and soft surfaces
  • Ideal for use with bedpans, vomit bowls and urine bottles
  • Supports safer transportation of liquid clinical waste

Indications

  • Containment and absorption of biohazard body fluid spills (urine, vomit, faeces, saliva, sputum)
  • Spill management in clinical and healthcare environments (wards, clinics, care homes, emergency areas)
  • Use in bedpans, vomit bowls and urine bottles to solidify contents prior to disposal
  • Assisting safe transportation of liquid clinical waste by converting liquid to a gel
  • General biohazard spill control on hard and soft surfaces

Composition

  • Sodium polyacrylate, cross linked (CAS 9003-04-7) ≥ 95% (primary absorbent polymer)
  • Minor additional components (including perfume/fragrance) at low concentration
  • Inert, non-toxic, non-flammable absorbent granules

Formulation

  • Solid, white crystal flakes or powder
  • High-absorbency, cross-linked sodium polyacrylate polymer granules
  • Supplied as free-flowing, mildly perfumed granules for sprinkling over spills

Packaging

  • 200 g shaker bottle of high absorbency granules
  • Shaker format designed for direct application to spills
  • Typically supplied as individual shakers; may be boxed in multiples by distributors

Usage

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with local infection control policies before dealing with any biohazard spill.
  • Sprinkle the High Absorbency Granules directly over the spill area, ensuring the liquid is fully covered.
  • Allow sufficient time for the granules to absorb the liquid and form a firm, non-spill gel.
  • Once the spill has fully gelled, mechanically collect the solidified material using appropriate tools (e.g. scoop and scraper) and place into an approved clinical waste container or bag.
  • Clean and disinfect the surface with an appropriate disinfectant as per local protocols after removal of the gelled material.
  • For use in bedpans, vomit bowls or urine bottles, apply granules directly to the liquid contents, allow to gel, then dispose of in accordance with local clinical waste procedures.
  • Avoid creating dust when applying the product and avoid walking on areas where the product is wet, as surfaces may become extremely slippery.
  • Wash hands and any exposed skin after handling and disposal.

Contraindications

  • Not for ingestion.
  • Not for direct application to open wounds or broken skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse cautiously with water.
  • Do not inhale dust; use in well-ventilated areas and avoid creating airborne particles.
  • Do not use as a general absorbent for flammable solvents or chemicals unless specifically approved in local protocols.
  • Avoid walking on areas where granules have contacted liquid, as surfaces can become extremely slippery.
  • Keep out of reach of children and unauthorised users.

Adverse Effects

  • Mechanical eye irritation may occur if dust or granules enter the eyes.
  • Mild, transient skin irritation may occur in sensitive individuals with prolonged contact.
  • Inhalation of dust may cause minor, temporary respiratory discomfort.
  • Spillage of wet product can cause significant slip hazard on floors.
  • No specific systemic toxicity identified when used as directed (product not classified as hazardous under CLP).

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated place.
  • Keep container tightly closed when not in use.
  • Protect from moisture and humidity to maintain free-flowing granules.
  • Store away from food and drink in accordance with local infection control and chemical storage guidelines.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Duration

Onset

Granules begin absorbing liquid on contact and typically form a firm gel within minutes, depending on spill volume and composition.
